Items Selection: PSG X POGGY

Clothing brands collaborations are everywhere these days, most of them just want to get moeny from the customers. Only a few stand out as truly interesting, and the collaboration between Paris Saint-Germain F.C. and Poggy is one of them.

The Instagram snapshot above features Poggy himself wearing one of the shirts from this collaboration. Poggy is a major icon in the Japanese fashion scene. He began his career in 1997 as a buyer at the legendary Japan select shop United Arrows, during the rise of the first wave of Japanese streetwear brands like A Bathing Ape and Undercover in Ura-Harajuku. Now, he serves as the creative director of United Arrows & Sons.

Recognized for his advanced taste and bold style, Poggy was named one of HYPEBEAST’s 100 most influential people in the world in 2015, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022. He is renowned for mixing luxury, streetwear, and vintage items, often seen at fashion events wearing his iconic wide-brim hat.

What makes this collaboration truly special is its tasteful execution in combining and echoing different cultural and style elements together. It features a faux boro print, a highly coveted element in Japanese fashion. Boro is the ultimate result of the traditional Japanese hand-stitching technique, Sashiko. Historically, Japanese peasants used Sashiko to patch and extend the life of their clothes, passing them down through generations. These garments could last a hundred years.

A beautiful example of Boro

In contrast, the French mohair worker jacket is a classic in French fashion, highly sought after in the vintage scene for its fit, history, and beautiful worn blue color. Poggy's use of boro to echo the French work jacket’s blue tones and traditional significance is masterful. The seamless integration of modern soccer clothing with traditional elements is stunning. And when pairing this sport wear with formal shirts as Poggy does, the outfit elevates to the next level. This collaboration is all about the contrasting elements and the great taste that weaves everything smoothly together.

Another reason this collaboration stands out is its alignment with current trends. Football-inspired fashion has become increasingly popular, offering a chill, edgy look. Imagine pairing these pieces with loafers or Adidas Sambas and a pair of baggy jeans, walking into a London pub, and instantly becoming one of the cool kids.

Lastly, the price is very reasonable. Ranging from 17,600 to 33,000 yen, which translates to approximately 112 to 210 USD thanks to the current weak yen, it's an excellent value for such a great collaboration.

My Top Picks:

Here are my top three picks from the collection. The track jacket stands out for its neck fit and versatility, easily blending into any outfit. The jersey is another great choice if you want to join the trend or collect from this collaboration without spending too much. It’s also the most soccer-esque item in the collection. The pants are more fashion-forward, offering an interesting and stylish option with their pattern. Contrary to common belief, a good pair of pants can define the entire style of an outfit. Clicking on the pictures below will take you to the website. They ship from Japan but I think the shipping price is fine. Also they are nearly sold out so move fast!
